What made you decide to pursue a career in Engineering?

From a young age, I was always interested in construction, but it was only when I was at college I realised I could make a career out of it. I studied a HND in construction and property at the university of Salford where I really enjoyed the quantity surveying modules and decided to go down that route. Now I absolutely love going on site and seeing the work come to life and know that I have been a part of it.

What is your experience as a woman in Engineering?

It’s been great! I haven’t had any bad experiences in engineering so far. There are only four women on site but everyone is so lovely and supportive and we are all treated 100% equal. We are like a family really, we call all the men our “uncles”.

How can we inspire young women to consider Engineering as a career option?

I feel like we are already making progress, there are now a lot more female engineering students and when receiving CV’s there tends to be a very good mix of male and female applicants.
