Just another candidate journey with Insight IT
Case Study – It’s not so grim up North…
Here at Insight, we have been doing our bit for international relations recently.
We were tasked with a very tricky role to fill for a Permanent Lead Developer in West Yorkshire, one with a real focus on Integration technologies.
After searching high and low in the local areas, it was clear that this was going to be a real struggle to find someone who wasn’t looking to contract and already had plenty of commercial experience in a similar role.
A little thing like that wouldn’t stop us though. We’re committed to bringing the best IT talent to the North of England (we’ll be demonstrating this at our networking event in Manchester on March 23rd– stay tuned for more info!) so we started speaking to people based far and wide. After skype interviews with someone in Minnesota, we then found someone in Madrid –slightly more tropical than Wakefield!
It was clear from our very first conversations that our candidate was perfectly suited to the job specification. Also, his situation was such that relocation for him and his family to the UK was a very attractive option.
We asked him to go and have a think about how realistic it would be, should the hiring manager be interested, that he would swap a glass of Sangria for a cup Yorkshire Tea.
Fortunately for everyone concerned, he was interested and very quickly the manager in question was too. We facilitated an initial telephone interview and quickly realised we we’re onto a winner. Next stage, was to arrange an office interview to meet the team and see if he could walk it like he talked it.
However, with Christmas fast approaching it was tough to arrange a suitable date for all parties. Once agreed, we then become part-time recruiters, part-time travel agents – helping to organise flights from Madrid to London and then trains up North.
Early January arrives and it’s the moment of truth. He’s had a look round the delights of Wakefield on a typically grey day and still isn’t put off. It must have been a good role!
We meet with him to have lunch in between technical tests and the Q&A session of the interview to put him at ease and try and get an idea how it was all going. As expected, it clearly went well – an offer soon followed which was quickly accepted.
Fast forward a few weeks and another very happy developer has touched down in Yorkshire, already having started a new chapter in his life and ready to start his new job on Monday. Here at Insight, rest assured that we’ll go above and beyond. Get in touch to find out more or come see us on March 23rd for our event “Attracting & Retaining the Best Talent in the North of England”.
