Insight into.. Our time with Mustard Tree

You may have seen over recent months that we have been immersing ourselves in the tech community as much as possible with our #InsightInto events.

This is something we’ve been passionate about since day one as we always try to differentiate ourselves from competitors. One of the key themes at our networking events has been ‘why the North?’ and in particular Manchester which has proved itself such an excellent place for innovation. With that in mind, we also wanted to look at our hometown and get involved with doing our bit for the local, non-tech community.

This is why we chose The Mustard Tree as our nominated charity as they do some incredible work in addressing the most serious issues Manchester is currently facing- homelessness and poverty.

Since 1994, this group of selfless volunteers have been “transforming the lives of people who are trapped in poverty or homelessness, by enabling them to gain the skills and confidence they need to reach their full potential”.

As far as mission statements go, it’s hard not to get behind it.

It can be quite easy for a recruitment company to simply throw a few quid at the problem and go home happy with ourselves, cashing in the good karma.

Instead we wanted to genuinely make a difference- putting our talents to good use, we have been working with participants of the Freedom Project who are looking at getting back into full time employment.

At these CV/Interview workshops, we pass advice on the best way to approach everything from job applications, cover letters, interviewing technique and everything in between.

Also, we have set up a referral scheme whereby if anyone has introduced a candidate to us who is then successfully placed by Insight, they will earn a referral fee of up to £250 which will then be matched for The Mustard Tree

We’ve also spent evenings working with the selfless volunteers from the weekly Soup Kitchen (that provided nearly 50,000 hot meals last year). This is something everyone has found extremely rewarding and sitting down and hearing people tell you their story has been eye opening. Often it’s a story that one moment everything was going fine before it all changed around them, it should be a reminder to everyone that we’re all people when it comes down to it.

The recent campaign following the Manchester Arena attacks said it perfectly, We Are Manchester, after all.

The Mustard Tree do some phenomenal work and are right in the thick of the Manchester community, we couldn’t imagine a more worthy cause to support.
