Insight Into… Lewis Barlow. Our Champions League Chasing and Career Carving Contract Consultant!

What is your role at Insight and how did you get here?

I am a Recruitment Consultant placing Contract .Net Developers! I always wanted to go into recruitment based on suggestions from friends and family that work in the industry so I took about 16 months gaining sales experience in both B2C and B2B sales before finally deciding to make the move.

How do the company values of Insight match up with you personally?

I’m a very driven person and don’t do anything to be just okay at it. I was taught from a young age to “know my why” for everything I do. I love a challenge and anything involving finding new ways to do things is where I feel I’m strongest.

What does success mean to you?

I have a different outlook on success to a lot of people that I know. For me, most of my family have stayed within the family businesses and made their careers that way. I wanted to carve my own path and have a career that I can look back on in 10/15 years and know that it was my hard work that put me there!

What are your top tips for success?

Through my time in sales I’ve come to realise that you have to be driven to be successful. If you don’t know the reason for what your doing, then how can you tell whether your successful or not?

I think it’s important to be resilient and just get on with what your doing. You can’t give up every time something doesn’t go your way. I always keep in mind something I got taught in one of my last sales jobs. “Some will, some won’t, so what?”

What’s the best advice you have for anyone on the job hunt?

You’ve got to take your time and make sure that role is right for you! I’ve come to realise over the years that taking the first opportunity that comes up, isn’t always the best one.

Give us some Insight Into yourself on a personal level – when you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

I’m a huge MMA fan, so I spend a lot of time getting up at 1am on a Sunday morning for fights! I’m actually hoping to get tickets for UFC London in March. I’m also a season ticket holder at Man City. I don’t get to away games as much as I’d like too so that’s a goal for the new year and next season – maybe even some trips away for the Champions League!
